Martien Oster - GUITAR
After his studies in the US. and in the course of 35 years, Martien performed and recorded with a variety of outstanding Jazzplayers: Monty Alexander, Red Holloway, Diana Krall (her first record!) and Dr. Lonnie Smith. In 2019 hammond organplayer Mike le Donne and altoist Vincent Herring joined Martien for a new edition of ‘Original Grooves’ playing the major clubs in Germany and Holland.
Martien’s style of playing is clearly rooted in the Jazz tradition but at the same time he is always looking for adventure.
Ronald van Driel - ORGAN
Ronald started playing the Hammondorgan at the tender age of 9. Still a young man he played with drummer Ray Appleton who played an important role in the further development of Ronald's career. Ronald inspired by Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, Jimmy McGriff and the French organplayer Eddy Louiss. Ronald's formal musical training was with legendary pianoplayers Rob Madna en Rob van Kreeveld.
His swing is intense with an incredible driving force which gives him his licence to Groove!
Ben Schröder - DRUMS
Ben Schröder first learned guitar when he was 7 years old and later switched to drums. First he played Stones and the Beatles untill I fell madly in love with my jazz for example Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Through self study he became one of the most swinging drummers in the Netherlands who played with virtually everybody and was sought after by many visiting international artist.
Ben is considered the uncrowned King of the original "shuffle"!
GROOVE LICENCE is a soulful and energetic hammondtrio with the roots in de 'Blue Note sound' of the years '50, '60 and 70's
Why Groove Licence?
In our trio we love the original sounds of the golden era of Hammondjazz. We have a varied repertoire that touches the spirit of the masters of the genre. We truly believe that they gave us the licence to Groove!
